Software I Like

Here is some of my favourite software these days:

• ChatGPT. For thinking things through, researching, and writing.
• Codex. For coding and an increasing amount of other computer work.
• 1Password. Keeps my passwords and other secrets organized.
• Wealthsimple Tax. Formerly SimpleTax. Makes doing my Canadian taxes surprisingly painless.
• Fastmail. Email with a clean interface and lots of thoughtful features.
• tmux. Keeps my terminal sessions organized and running.
• Typora. A Markdown editor that makes writing Markdown feel like writing.
• Drafts. A place to quickly capture text and decide what to do with it later.
• Due. Reminders that keep reminding me until I actually do the thing.
• Bartender. Keeps my Mac’s menu bar under control.
• espanso. Expands little abbreviations into text I use frequently.
• Shottr. A small, excellent screenshot tool with handy annotation features.
• Tailscale. Makes connecting my computers over a private network remarkably easy.
• Todoist. Keeps track of what I need to do.

Honourable mentions:

• Raycast. A handy launcher with lots of useful extras. I like it, though I haven’t felt the need to pay for it.
• Jump Desktop Connect. Makes my Mac accessible remotely through Jump Desktop.
• LocalSend. Sends files between devices on the same network without fuss.
