I'm all about the Pilot G-2 gel pens. Pretty cheap, the 0.7 is great for everyday use, and the 1.0's boldness gets me rolling for notes and brainstorming. I'm also a fan of the Sarasa pens, which are almost the equal of the G-2, but can also frequently be found in big packs of fun colors.
I can spend hours at the stationery store browsing at pens. They are not too expensive but they add up. About two years ago I read a review on a Lamy 2000 fountain pen at http://mikeshea.net/Lamy_2000_Fountain_Pen_Re.html and decided to splurge. Since then I don't buy as many of these other pens. I told myself that since I could refill the fountain pen I would be saving money in the long run. I'm not sure how many years the break even point is but it doesn't matter because the Lamy is a pleasure to use.
I tried (as everybody else I guess) different pens to find out which one suits me best. For the last 4-5 years I've been using the basic 4-colours Bic pen. It is not the best looking pen on the market; design has not change since probably 1950 but I like it and goes with me everywhere (and you get 4 colours for good price!)
If you can splurge, I would definitely go for the Lamy, it is indeed a pleasure to use. However, for everyday use, I suggest the Uni-ball 207 Micro. Much better than the G2. Pilot P-500 is algo a good choice for everyday. Let us know how it goes!
This reminds me of Mitch Hedberg: "I bought a seven-dollar pen because I always lose pens and I got sick of ... ... ... not caring."

I mainly use Stabilo Point 88 Fine 0,4 pens.

I had Pilot before, really good pen but I found that if you carry them around (in your pocket) they have a tendency lo leak...
Marc—I keep hearing about the G-2. I purchased one and will be interested to see how it is.

ReplyDeleteThe G2 and G-Tec-C4 seem a bit scratchy—maybe I need to get used to these needle-like nibs.
The Uni-ball Jetstream just seems to be a ballpoint—not sure what’s so special about it.
Try the Pilot Precise V5 RT, my current fave. It's a retractable version of the regular Precise.

ReplyDeleteJust got a bright-green Zebra Sarasa 0.7 and a bright red Sharpie Fine. Love the bold colors.
The Jetstream is a ballboint...but it's wonderfully smooth with a solid line. It's wonderful to write with.

Yeah—I’d have to agree that the Jetstream is darker and smoother than a typical ballpoint. Doesn’t hurt that it looks nice too.
