Quote on creativity

As those who have studied creativity know, breakthroughs occur when focused, rational thought and activity are followed by a period of release. This is why we get up from our desks frustrated and exhausted, decide to shower and—bing!—there's the answer.

  1. From experience, I find this to be very true. Although I haven't tried taking the shower to solve problems, whenever I'm stuck I find that it's good to walk away from the problem and do something else for a while. This could be going for a walk or getting something to eat. Inspiration occurs when your patient and you give it enough time.

  4. I've actually heard of people putting a grease pencil in their shower to write down there notes.

I certainly have drawn UML diagrams on the steam covered wall.

  6. Which book does Julia Cameron say that quote? I'm interested in reading it, or any other books of hers that you recommend.

  7. Hello Johan - It's from Vein of Gold. And it's making me write my autobiography! It's really super (and challenging).

And I'd say its left-brain counterpart would be GTD (which I'm sure you know about).
